Ski Dancers lined up for a moment of warm sunshine at Bretton Woods.

Twenty members of The International Ski Dancing Association twirledSkiers line up on slope down the slopes to the cheers and applause of skiers and riders on the chair lifts. There was an excitement in the air as the group, wearing flags that represented their countries of origin, and brightly colored outfits, teamed up in pairs, trios and even five dancers across to dazzle the spectators.

The ski dancers have an International Festival every two years and, in 2005, appeared at Bretton Woods, Loon, Okemo, Wachusett and Waterville Valley.Spectators agreed the skiers looked like ice dancers on the snow and displayed amazing skiing ability.

The three Japanese ski dancers, who traveled 20 hours to participate in the festival, were spectacular and received gold medals at the closing ceremony. "It's a chance for a real international exchange," said Charles Malfetti, cofounder of the International Ski Dancing Association. "We spend ten days working to improve the sport and everyone comes away with new skills and the enthusiasm to keep working hard. It's exhausting but always a fantastic learning experience. Our members range in age from 20 to 83 and the senior member is never far behind the young skiers. We even have the head of Bretton Woods' Adaptive Ski Program twirling down the hill in his bucket seat monoski. It's an awesome group of creative people that embrace life and seek to advance the sport of ski dancing. People love to watch and we even got a standing ovation in the lodge at Loon at lunch time."
