| In 1992 Cheryl and Charles Malfetti realized the need to expose
the new sport of Ski Dancing to the world. They established and registered
the United States Ski Dancing Association as a non-profit group dedicated
to expanding and sharing this creative art form. The name has since
changed to the International Ski Dancing Association to reflect the
growing number of members outside of the U.S.
Cheryl and Charles Malfetti, the founders and executive directors
of the International Ski Dancing Association, began skiing together
in the late 70's. They both love ballroom dancing, a passion which
lent itself to the creation of this unique sport.
Charles' background includes experience in competitive weightlifting,
with advanced studies in Kinesiology as well as a degree in Nursing.
Cheryl has a background in dance, and is a member of the United States
Figure Skating Association. Together, they have spearheaded the advancement
of the sport of Ski Dancing.
Since its foundation in 1992, the ISDA has grown to include several
hundred members from all over the world. The Malfetti's ultimate goal
is to see Ski Dancing adopted as an Olympic event in the future. They
continue to give demonstrations worldwide and have been called the "Torville
and Dean of Ski Dancing" by members of the skiing press.
